FABreview: Camouflage

Camouflage- concealment by means of disguise, painting objects so that they are lost to view in the background.

Recently, I got together with some old friends from high school (shout out to IHHS class of 86'!!), and someone, (who shall remain nameless) brought the senior yearbook with them to the party, and all of sudden, I was 17 again!

After reminiscing a bit, I came to realize, (it only took 28 years) that the opinion I had of myself back then, was very different from the way my classmates viewed me. I never felt pretty enough, cool enough or popular enough. I was my own worst enemy, and even though I was outgoing, involved in school activities, and sports, I still managed, to lack self confidence. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved high school, and what I lacked in self image, I definitely made up for in fashion sense. It may sound silly, but I had the most confidence, when I was wearing an outfit that I loved and felt good in(some things never change). Fashion was my camouflage.

It wasn't until college, that I finally started coming into my own, and stopped worrying about what everyone else thought of me. I am still a work in progress, but I am happy to report, that I am more confident than I have ever been in my life. I'm doing what I love, and I'm surrounded by the people I love, and that's all I need.

Congratulations to all of the graduates out there, and in the words of one of my fav's from the 80's, Howard Jones, and the quote I used in my senior yearbook;

"Hope you find it in everything,

everything that you see".
