Made In The USA

For Labor Day, my brother challenged me to do a post featuring only clothing made in the USA. It was not as easy as I thought it would be, and as I was double checking each tag on my clothing for this post (after my husband had already taken the photos), I realized the vest is not actually made in the USA (oops!).  Well, like Tim Gunn says "make it work"! The great thing about this little challenge, is that I already had most of the items in my closet, except for the hat.

I began my research online first, then headed to the mall. This was quite a learning experience. For instance, did you know that Converse is no longer made in the USA? (total bummer, but still a great product).  Good thing I still had my low tops from the 80's. I also discovered that Nordstrom has a whole section dedicated to Made in the USA product online which is also very reasonably priced.
As I shopped the mall, I was really shocked at how hard it was to find products Made in the USA. If you do your homework, they do exist, and when you do find them, they are made well, and made to last.  Clearly my converse All stars wood agree.

Let's get something straight here. I am not knocking companies who sell products that are not made in the USA, however, there is something to be said for supporting the companies that" keep it in the family" so to speak.  I believe quality is more efficiently monitored because everything is done right here in the good ol' US of A. From now on, when I am shopping the racks in a store, I will definitely give more thought to where it is made. Thanks for the challenge Mark. It was definitely any eye opening experience.

Do you have something made in the USA that has stood the test of time? I would love to hear your story.
