Do You Wallaroo?

With fall right around the corner, it won't be long before we will be trading in our big straw hats for a fabulous pair of boots (yay!), so what better way to close out summer then to talk about my new straw hat.

Recently I was at a barbecue when one of the guests overheard me talking about my blog and asked me if I had ever heard of the Wallaroo Hat Company? "You should blog about them." She had my attention. I really wanted to Google them right then and there, but I restrained myself, and waited until the car ride home to check them out.

Needless to say, after perusing their site I was even more excited to order my first Wallaroo hat. Founders Lenya Shore and Stephanie Carter, based out of Denver Colorado, discovered the Aussie secret to sun protection after a trip to Australia and started their company in 1999.  All of their fabrics are UPF 50+(Ultraviolet protection factor)providing 97.5% protection from the sun's ultraviolet rays.  Can I get a Hallelujah from all of my non-tanning girlies?! These stylish hats are also crushable(packable) which means they won't lose their fabulousness after you take them out of your suitcase.

The most impressive thing about this company, is the fact that each year they donate a percentage of their profits to skin cancer research, education and prevention in the U.S. as well as making donations to many other charitable organizations over the years.

They have something for everyone, from adults to toddlers and every hat has a drawstring on the interior or exterior, so one size fits most. So after you are done laboring this weekend go to their site and reward yourself with one of these beauties. Your face will thank you for it!

100 Years Strong

I will be unplugging for a few days as we head to my mom's in Maryland for some good ol' fashion family fun to celebrate my grandmother's (Nanny's) 100th birthday. I am so blessed to have such an amazing grandmother!
Where do I start? So many years, so many good times and so many memories, and more to be made over the next couple of days. I can't wait!

Always The Stylish One!
Making the turkey dance on Thanksgiving. One of our crazy family traditions.

No place I'd rather be than sitting at her feet listening to stories from the past.

The proud Great Grandma

She finds the fun in everything.
I love being the first grandchild. She calls me Sugarplum.
Could she be any cuter?
There's nothing like a Nanny hug!

Three generations of love.

Love, love, love you Nanny!

    Happy 100th Birthday Nanny!
Here's to you and your fabulousness!

Revved Up For Fall

Not only am I revved up about fall being right around the corner (boot season), but I am also excited  to tell you an inspiring little story about the owner of the motorcycle which was used for this photo shoot.
Cem (pronounced Gem) is a coworker of my husband's who moved here from Germany about a year ago. When he was 17, he bought a pair of Harley Davidson overalls in hopes that one day he would wear them while riding his new bike. Well, that dream came true about four months ago, when he purchased his brand new Harley, and yes, he still fits into those overalls which are now considered vintage! I love it! This is just proof that classic items are timeless.

It's A Jungle Out There

August is my favorite month because it's not too hot during the day, cooler at night, everything is still green and lush, and most importantly, the September issue of Vogue comes out. (lol!) Here I am daydreaming about a new fall wardrobe.

Spark Your Interest

Recently, I  had a Saturday night to myself while my husband was traveling, and happened to catch the first Sex and the City movie on TV.  I know, I know, me, the fashion maniac had never seen it!

While I was drooling over Sarah Jessica Parker's wardrobe, something else caught my attention. She never wore large earrings throughout the entire movie.  Instead, she paired tiny stud earrings with beautiful statement necklaces.

This was an "aha" moment for me, because being a child of the 80's, there wasn't much that I didn't hang from my ears, and now I'm paying the price. With all of that being said, I decided that this is going to be my new look. Soon after making this decision, I was introduced to Sweet and Spark through a blog post by Megan Runion at For All Things Lovely.

Not only does Sweet and Spark have lots of beautiful tiny earrings, statement necklaces, bracelets and brooches, they are all one of a kind vintage pieces. Yes pleeeease! Oh! and did I mention, it's a father daughter team. How cute is that! Now go check them out!

Black, White, and Ruffles

I'm not really a "ruffle" girl, but combine ruffles and an animal print, and I'm in! This top is another one of my summer go-to pieces. Black and white is always a no brainer and can be paired with anything. Add a statement necklace with minimal jewelry and you're ready to go! Easy peasy!

Gray Definition

Gray: dull in color, lacking in cheer, or brightness in mood, outlook and style. Dismal, gloomy.
Poor gray, always getting picked on. It has such a sad reputation. No offense Merriam and Webster, but I couldn't disagree with you more. Gray to me, is Stylish, chic, easy and fun to accessorize.  I scored this maxi dress at Nordstrom Rack and it has been my summer go-to for everything from barbecues to date nights with my honey.

A classic denim jacket always works for the cooler evenings.
